Heat-Pump Wiring, Motor and Control-Board Damage Assessed in Tarpon Springs
May 2026
Problem: A roughly ten-year-old heat pump required evaluation after electrical and operating problems developed.
Diagnosis: Inspection found burned wiring between the compressor and contactor, additional burned wiring at the fan motor, and a burn mark at a relay tab in the upper-left area of the control board.
Recommendation: Because the damage involved multiple major electrical and mechanical areas, replacement of the heat pump was recommended. A 140,000-BTU heating-and-cooling unit was proposed, with the reported automation issue to be evaluated during the replacement work.

Shorted Water-Temperature Sensor Diagnosed in Tarpon Springs
December 2025
Problem: The pool heater would not fire and required an equipment diagnosis.
Diagnosis: The technician identified a shorted water-temperature sensor and documented signs of flood damage at the heater.
Recommendation: A quotation to replace the water-temperature sensor was requested. The record also proposed replacing the fan and compressor run capacitors before another attempt to fire the heater.

Max-E-Therm 400K LP Heater Installation in Tarpon Springs
November 2025
Problem: The property needed a replacement gas pool heater connected to the existing gas regulator and Jandy automation system.
Solution: Florida Pool Tech installed a Pentair Max-E-Therm 400,000-BTU propane heater and completed the plumbing, electrical and gas connections. The new heater was also wired into the existing Jandy controls.
Result: The closeout confirms that the new heater was installed, wired and communicating with the Jandy automation system.

Natural-Gas Heater Air-Line and Gas-Supply Diagnosis in Tarpon Springs — December 2018
Problem: A newly installed 400,000-BTU natural-gas pool heater would not start and displayed AO and IF fault codes.
Diagnosis: The AO code cleared after the disconnected air line to the air-pressure switch was properly reconnected. The remaining ignition-failure condition was evaluated against an approximately 86-foot, three-quarter-inch gas-line run supplied by a low-pressure meter originally sized for about 200,000 BTU while also serving the home's other gas appliances.
Recommendation: Have the gas utility install a meter sized for the added 400,000-BTU heater load. If the ignition problem continued after the gas-supply correction, the next documented step was an inlet-water-column pressure test with a manometer.
Planning Your Project
Send the model label, displayed message and whether the unit is a gas heater, heat pump or electric-resistance heater. Describe the result you expect when heating the pool or spa. For your Tarpon Springs property, provide the equipment model, a description of the requested work and any previous service records. Include the full address and the contact who can arrange access.

When the heater will not start or keep heating
Record the exact display message and whether the problem occurs in pool mode, spa mode or both. A heater that starts and then shuts down presents a different diagnostic path from a unit with no display. Tell us if the problem began after filter service, a pump change, a power interruption or a change to the automation schedule.
The heater depends on the circulation system and its controls. A low-flow message can involve the filter, valve positions, pump operation or the heater's sensing components. The message identifies a condition to investigate; it does not, by itself, identify the part to replace. Gas ignition, combustion and electrical checks belong with a qualified professional.
A heater fault does not by itself establish that a complete replacement is necessary. Discuss inspection findings, equipment condition and the proposed repair before comparing replacement options.
✓ Identify the affected equipment
✓ Review the existing installation
✓ Separate necessary and optional work
✓ Identify related plumbing or controls
✓ Review the written estimate
What belongs in a heater repair estimate?
A useful proposal names the diagnosed fault, the component being repaired or replaced and any related plumbing or control work. Review the equipment's overall condition and parts availability alongside the repair price. A replaceable sensor or switch and a badly deteriorated heat exchanger can lead to very different recommendations.
For a replacement, compare the complete installed scope: heater model, equipment-pad arrangement, necessary utility connections, plumbing changes and control integration. Ask which work is included and which requires separate coordination. Share the purchase date, serial number and any warranty documents so coverage can be checked before you assume that parts, labor or a complete replacement are covered.
For an installation, explain how you use the pool and spa and what equipment is already present. The heating approach, site arrangement and system connections belong in the planning discussion.
✓ Share equipment labels and photos
✓ Describe the intended result
✓ Discuss access to the work area
✓ Confirm compatible connections
✓ Review operation and handover
Choose heating around the way you swim
Explain whether you want to maintain pool temperature through the season, heat a spa for occasional use or warm the pool for scheduled visits. A heat pump draws heat from the surrounding air; its performance changes with conditions. Gas heating has different fuel-supply and installation requirements. The best comparison starts with your temperature goals, available utilities and existing system.
Pool size, starting water temperature, wind exposure, use of a cover and equipment capacity affect the heating plan. Avoid choosing a unit from pool gallons alone or expecting a fixed heat-up time in every season. Include space for manufacturer-required clearances, airflow, drainage and future service access when discussing placement. Ask how the heater and pump schedules will work together after installation.

Tarpon Springs Pool Heater Questions
If your pool is losing water, equipment is leaking, or the finish is aging, we can inspect the problem and recommend the right repair path.
Does water under a heat pump mean it is leaking?
Not necessarily. A running heat pump can produce condensation. Tell us whether the moisture appears only during heating, continues while the heater is off, or coincides with falling pool water. A photograph and the operating conditions help separate normal drainage from a plumbing or equipment leak. Avoid assuming that every wet equipment pad needs a new heater.
Why does the heater work in spa mode but not pool mode?
Pool and spa settings, valve operation, circulation and automation commands can differ. Report which mode works, the displayed temperature and the selected heating setting. An inspection can then focus on the operating sequence and equipment. Do not bypass a safety switch or keep resetting a fault to force the heater to run.
How much will pool heater service cost?
The diagnosis and the installed equipment determine the repair scope. A component repair, a plumbing leak and a complete replacement require different work. Request the current diagnostic fee and a written scope for the recommended repair. For replacement, compare equipment, connection changes, controls, startup and applicable warranty terms together rather than comparing the heater price alone.
