Color Pool Light Installation in Tampa
September 2026

Problem: The Tampa project called for installation of a color pool light.

Solution: In September 2026, we installed a Pentair IntelliBrite Architectural Series color pool light at a Tampa property. The equipment record dates the installation to September 7. The installed light was a 12-volt unit with a 50-foot cord, identifying the configuration used for this installation.

Water-Filled Pool Light Diagnosis in Tampa
June 2026

Problem: The pool light was not operating, and the cause needed to be separated from a possible transformer or low-voltage supply problem.

Diagnosis: The transformer was tested and was producing 12 volts, confirming that the power supply was functioning. Inspection of the light found that its gasket had failed and the fixture was full of water.

Recommendation: Replacement with a new color LED pool light was specified for approval based on the failed, water-filled fixture.

Pool-Light Diagnosis and LED Replacement in Tampa
May 2026

Problem: The pool light was not operating, requiring the transformer and fixture to be checked separately before replacement.

Diagnosis: The transformer received 120 volts and reduced it to approximately 14 volts as intended, confirming that the transformer was functioning. The light itself was identified as burned out.

Solution: After the diagnostic visit, a new color LED pool light was installed at the same Tampa property.

Result: The documented sequence moved from confirming a sound transformer and failed fixture to completing the LED-light replacement.

Spa-Light Conduit Leak Located in Tampa
April 2026

Problem: Water loss prompted static dye and electronic leak testing. The pool was documented as clean, clear and filled to the proper level for the inspection.

Diagnosis: Testing located a leak in the spa-light conduit. The skimmer, wall fittings and plumbing, main drain, structure and equipment plumbing were recorded without active leaks during the same inspection.

Recommendation: A repair estimate was requested for the leaking light conduit. The homeowner also requested pricing to replace the light and seal the light in the fountain basin. The documented result of this visit was the identified leak location and proposed lighting repair scope.

Failed Pool Light and Underground Leads Diagnosed in Tampa
January 2026

Problem: The pool light was burned out and required evaluation of the fixture, underground leads and switching arrangement.

Diagnosis: The technician found that the light leads were cut underground and documented that the existing main junction box wiring could not be reliably identified in its present condition.

Recommendation: Replace the pool light, run new leads to the junction box and install a new pool-light switch. An Intermatic panel and cleanup of the pool electrical wiring were also recommended.

Transformer Failure and Moisture in Pool Light Diagnosed in Tampa
September 2025

Problem: The pool-light system was not operating correctly and required evaluation of both the power supply and underwater fixture.

Diagnosis: The technician found that the pool-light transformer was not working. Moisture was also beginning to build inside the light, indicating that its gasket was starting to fail.

Recommendation: Replace the transformer and pool light together and install another mud ring to secure the fixture to the pool wall.

Broken Pool-Light Conduit Leak Diagnosis in Tampa — May 2019

Problem: Electronic leak detection was requested to identify the source of water loss in a residential pool.

Diagnosis: Testing traced the problem to the pool-light assembly, where the light conduit had broken free from the light. That separation created the documented leak path at the fixture.

Recommendation: Replace the affected light assembly or permanently decommission and seal that light path as part of the leak repair.

For another pool, we review the existing light, controls, niche, and cord route before selecting replacement equipment.

A failed pool light should be assessed as part of its lighting system rather than treated as a simple decorative change. Florida Pool Tech handles pool light repair, replacement and installation.

✓ Pool lighting diagnosis
✓ Pool light repair
✓ Fixture replacement
✓ Pool light installation
✓ Lighting control coordination

Diagnose the lighting system, from controls to fixture

Tell us whether one light or every light is affected, whether a fixture flickers, and whether the problem changes with a selected color or lighting program. The light, controller, power supply and wiring work together. Where fitted, a transformer is part of the diagnostic path; a dark pool light does not automatically mean that the underwater fixture has failed.

Report a breaker or GFCI that trips, visible damage, or water inside a sealed fixture. Keep an affected light switched off and arrange professional inspection rather than repeatedly resetting protection or opening electrical equipment. Share information from accessible labels and existing paperwork; you do not need to remove a light from the pool to request service.

The appropriate repair depends on the existing fixture and connected system. Ask the team to explain what the proposed work includes and whether it addresses one light or multiple fixtures.

✓ Identify the affected equipment
✓ Review the existing installation
✓ Separate necessary and optional work
✓ Identify related plumbing or controls
✓ Review the written estimate

Fixture replacement and leak repair are different scopes

A replacement must match the requirements of the existing installation, including voltage, approved niche compatibility, cord length and control arrangement. The condition and accessibility of the cord route can affect the work. Ask whether the proposal includes a complete fixture, any required transformer or controller changes, and restoration if additional access is needed.

Pool water loss near a light needs separate attention to the niche, conduit and surrounding pool structure. Replacing a lamp or LED assembly does not automatically repair a leaking conduit or niche. If the water level is falling as well as the light failing, mention both symptoms so lighting diagnosis and leak testing can be coordinated in the repair plan.

For a lighting upgrade, discuss fixture compatibility, controls and the desired result before choosing a product. Include the pool and spa lights in the same discussion if they are intended to work together.

✓ Share equipment labels and photos
✓ Describe the intended result
✓ Discuss access to the work area
✓ Confirm compatible connections
✓ Review operation and handover

Plan the appearance and controls together

Before choosing white or color-changing LED lighting, discuss the pool and spa layout, existing fixture positions and the look you want at night. Finish color, water clarity, depth and fixture placement affect the appearance of the water. Comparing equipment specifications and the existing installation is more useful than expecting every pool to match a catalog photograph.

If you want pool and spa lights to change together, confirm that the selected products and controller support that behavior. An automation panel or app does not necessarily operate every lighting model. Review how lights turn on, how color programs are selected and whether the proposed work covers one fixture or the complete system. Include lighting decisions early when a resurfacing or renovation project is also planned.

Tampa Pool Lighting Questions

If your pool is losing water, equipment is leaking, or the finish is aging, we can inspect the problem and recommend the right repair path.

Can an existing pool light be upgraded to LED?

Often an upgrade is possible, but the existing niche, fixture type, voltage, cord route and controls must be checked first. Some installations support a compatible replacement fixture; others need related equipment changes. Provide the model information you already have and photos of accessible controls. The inspection determines which products fit your pool.

Will a new light fix water loss at the light opening?

Only if the diagnosed source of the loss is addressed by that work. Water loss can involve the niche, conduit or surrounding structure, while lighting failure can involve the fixture or electrical supply. Describe both problems when scheduling. Leak detection can help define the water-loss repair separately from restoring illumination.

What affects pool light replacement cost?

The fixture type, number of lights, compatible controls, transformer requirements, cord length and access all matter. A straightforward compatible replacement and a damaged conduit requiring additional access are different scopes. Ask for a written estimate identifying the equipment, related repairs and any restoration. If a protective device trips or a fixture is damaged, leave the light off until inspected.
